Centerville High Reviews

This school is not a good school. The principal does not offer consistent discipline across the board. It is all left up to the teachers to decide the rules making it okay to do one thing in this teachers class but not okay in another. The students are very rude and there is a lot of fights that happen. The student population is not a nice group of people

Centerville High school has a wonderful academic program. It is motivational for the most part but some of the teachers are lacking in quality. The school expects a lot from it's students not understanding fully how difficult being a teenager can be in the first place. There are millions of after school activities and sports that about anyone can join. There is something for everyone. The school needs to make sure the athletes can keep up there grades and should have a higher expectation.

Some may say that Centerville cannot offer what a private school can offer, like local Catholic or charter schools. On the contrary, Centerville offers many more AP classes than the local private schools, like the famed Miami Valley School. Most of the faculty challeneges their students to perform at new levels. The faculty is the reason that the school has some of the highest test-scores in the state(OGT). Not only does the school provide an excellent education, but gives the students an opportunity to excell in extracurriculars. The music program at the school is phenomenal(The Orchestra recently placed 2nd in the nation, and the marching band is a consistant top-10-in-the-nation band, even winning the Bands of America National Championship in 1992. There are many art classes available to students, along with an extremely long list of activities ranging from the 3rd-in-the-nation Science Olympiad team to the GWOC All-Sports-Award,the list goes on.

Highly recommend Centerville High School, especially for those students who wish to take Advanced Placement courses. These are taught by top-notch faculty and provide excellent preparation for college work. Extracurriculars, including sports and music, offer great opportunities to experience a small school setting in a large high school environment. The school has the added benefit of diversity of student body. I would highly recommend that anyone relocating to the Dayton Ohio area consider the Centerville School district.

Centerville high school has a lot of really interesting electives and classes that can contribute to the childs learning experiance in a positive way.

excellant academic programs from college level, ap honors and other quality programming. collaboration with both Sinclair and U.D. gives many options to students

Great school, great people, great teachers!

I am very satisfied with the quality of academic programs availiabe to students at CHS. There are great support systems in place to help every student excel to their fullest potential. My child has improved and show an excitement about learning that was not there before coming to CHS. The school administrators and the teachers show geniune interest in the students ans their families. Centerville's music, art and sports are top notched in every aspect. As a result the students excell in these area as well as academics. The level of parenta invovlement is high. There are various parental groups which are very active and parents support is very visiable both at the school functions and at the voting polls. I highily recommend Centerville High School for those looking for high quality diversified education.

I love CHS ! I went there, my childrens mother went there. And now both our children are there. I am very happy to have my children attend CHS, and I would not have it any other way!

My experience at CHS was amazing, and I feel that the school has alot to offer. By being so large there is a wide range of extracurricular activities to be involved in, and there are lots of AP courses availible. I took 9 AP tests and got 4 or 5s on all of them thanks to the great teaching at CHS. As far as the social atmosphere is concerned, yes there are clicks, but there is so many students that its difficult not to find a group fo friends with similar interests or views, especially if you get involved in the extracurricular activities. The friends you make are amazing, its hard not to go around a college in Ohio and not run into someone from Centerville. In summary I would say CHS gives a kid excellent prep for college, as well as a great HS experience.

Advanced Placement classes do not exist for freshman, so I am unclear as to why one can complain that the Advanced Placement classes they took freshman year were not challenging when they are offered only to sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

If a review states there exists no 'in crowd,' chances are that that individual is or was in the 'in crowd' and was just too ignorant to see it. The classes are not challenging, and I would be lying if i said that 'clicks' do not exist. If one is unfortunate enough to be on the 'outside,' their experience will not be enjoyable.

The school itself is pretty wonderful, except that (like mane schools) the arts are underfunded and sports are placed on a VERY high pedestal. But the classes and teachers are wonderful. However...Centerville High School is a very interesting social atmosphere. Many of the students are stuck up and down right cruel to those they consider 'below them.' I'm happy with my experience over all. But socially CHS is a difficult place to grow up.

The school provides such a diverse range of opportunities for a well-rounded high school experience. Definitely unforgettable.

As a parent of a student who graduated from this school in 2003, our family found this school to be most concerned with sports (the football team) and the band. Most of the emphasis is placed here. Although the school has earned high ratings for academics, neither of my two children who attended there found their classes to be challenging. Our youngest, who is now at a private school, took all upper level classes and Advanced Placement and was bored. Sadly, the rating the school has achieved, has lead to an elitist mentality on the parent of the administration, teachers and the students - unwarranted. Also, there is no school choice in Centerville, so if you find you have to make a change, it will be entirely at your own expense.

I attended Centerville High School for my Freshman year. From an academic standpoint, I did not find the school challenging, although I took almost all upper level or Advanced Placement classes. The emphasis at CHS was primarily on the football team and band. I made the decision to change schools after my Freshman year and now attend a private school.

I graduated in 2002 and I am glad to say attending CHS was one of the best experiences of my life. There are so many people to meet. You meet someone new everyday it seemed during my short 4 years there. CHS defintely prepared me for college and I couldn't ask for more out of the teachers. Also, I competed in baseball at CHS and I couldn't have had a better time. I will always look back on my high school days and be proud of what I accomplished. CHS opens so many opportunities that other schools do not. There are so many extracurricular actitivies to participate in, which gives everyone a chance to meet new friends.
